 Born Catherine Ford in Bloomsbury, London in 1968, she was brought up in the distinctive and iconic Brunswick Centre. Catherine attended a local Catholic primary school and a south London convent secondary school before going on to train at the Central School of Speech and Drama.
She has written and acted, and has had her own television show (as many Americans do not know). She is a relatively famous actress in Britain as should, as we all expect, do honor to Doctor Who as a much more experienced actress than previous companions in the new series.
At three years older than David Tennant, she becomes the first person to play a Doctor Who companion who is actually older than the actor playing the Doctor she accompanies.

 David Tennant, the newest actor to play the Doctor (and arguably the best and most popular since Tom Baker left the role in 1981) has probably found the role that will define his acting career.
Although not yet a household name in the United States, David Tennant is one of the rising stars of British Television and has recently been nominated for most popular actor in a Television Drama in the UK. As he now begins his third series in Doctor Who (alongside Catherine Tate (Donna Noble) and Freema Agyman (Martha Jones)) he is expected to take the series to new heights of popularity both in the UK and abroad.
 Having previously taken the lead role in Masterpiece Theatre's "Casanova" Tennant's brilliance captured television audiences. And in America his guest starring role as Berty Crouch Jr. in the Harry Potter movie "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" was his mass-media introduction.
