REVIEW: The House That Dripped Blood |
|
Tuesday, 07 August 2007 |
The administrators of whovian.org have begun renting films starring various actors from Doctor Who. Last month we viewed "Scars of Dracula" co-starring Patrick Troughton as Klove (which was a striking performance). This month we are reviewing "The House That Dripped Blood" with Jon Pertwee
As Paul Henderson the horror movie actor, Pertwee's performance was brilliant. It was truly classic Pertwee with all the trademark facial expressions we've come to know and love. He distinguished himself as the 'lighter side' of the movie with his comedic approach to his egotistical character.
In the film he wore his trademark ruffled shirts, wide brimmed hat (as seen in "Spearhead from Space") and black cloak - a very dangerous cloak indeed. He is also seen driving an old car that is reminiscent of Bessie!
Produced in 1971, this film coincides with his tenure as the Doctor and leaves a person to wonder if Pertwee is playing the Doctor acting out the role of a horror movie actor. In any case, it is the true brilliance of Jon Pertwee shining out in all his glory.
For true Doctor Who fans this is a must-see. If you can handle the wait that is. Pertwee plays in the final story of the film, following excellent performances by Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.
Get plenty of popcorn for this one and be prepared to laugh at what Pertwee's character does on the stage set during the filming of his horror movie. His facial expressions are hilarious! |
